Record High Temperature in Toronto.

Yes, the day we decided to go to the zoo and have a nice, easy day wandering around looking at the world’s #2 zoo … became a 31 degree, 80 kmh winds, sunny day. Early start, walked up Queen St W and found a laundromat not too far away, then up to find the subway station (Spadina for those interested). Stopped off at a 7-Eleven for some yoghurt, ham and cheese sandwich and a cranberry juice for brekkie. Onto the subway and then bus to the zoo. All the public transport people were very nice and helpful, it only cost $3 each to get all the way to the zoo (about 45 mins). Got to the Zoo at about 10.30 and headed up to see the Tundra Exhibit (Polar Bears. etc). With the day rapidly approached historically record high temperatures, the bears and wolves for some reason only wanted to lie around and pant! So, up to see the Sumatran Tigers, Orangutangs, etc.  Ah, this weather is much more conducive to these animals. Past the gorilla enclosure (Ian, I saw your double … and it was a female!) and then we headed to what we had anticipated, the Canadian section. The Toronto Zoo really is fantastic (apart from what seemed to be a very old sad looking Tundra area .. maybe it was the weather?) but it’s also very spread out. The Canadian section is reached by walking uphill then down a very long steep hill. Uh huh .. down first, look lots and then … long, slow, hot climb back up. Down the bottom (a zoo type bloke pulled up, and when we said “G’day” advised us to walk straight to the bottom and then look at the exhibits on the way up, resting as we go), grizzlies! According to the display board, Polar bears are bigger, but these two looked as big as hefalumps! Slow, bored looking … but still not something you’d want to see while camping (none of these at Coolum, Marcus … except maybe Roger before his morning coffee).  Over to see the moose (mooses?) and then the slow painful climb back past cougars, raccoons and lynxs … phew! /walked slowly back to the bus and quizzed the bus driver about where we could buy something to drink. He dropped us off opposite a LCBO (bottlo in Oz), we gathered the neccessities of life – Canada Club and Canada Dry and headed home, totally shagged out. Lorraine is zzzzzz-ing at the moment, I’m about to wake her for yet another (and now nightly ritual) spa and pool.

Good onyas!

PS. Lorraine is not zzzzz ing …she is counting the milliseconds between each throb of feet pain. 5 days of constant walking.

Sounds like another full day. You two will be coming home for a rest. You better slow down and get ready for the next stage of the trip……… The zoo sounds really great except for the weather. You wouldn’t pick it, would you. How unlucky, on a day when a lot of walking was on the agenda. Weather starting to warm up here. Spring is a great time of the year. David looking forward to the Tigers game!!!!! Hope they come through for him….. Lunch with Evan and Jen today. Looking forward to it. Signing off now. Take care untill my next post. Love Vicki.
