Angry Birds in Mallorca

Angry birds all right! More on that later (or if you’re following us on Facebook you’ve already seen it, bleh).

We pulled in Palma de Mallorca at 2pm and started disembarking. It’s a bit too far to walk into town, so MSC put on shuttle buses, $10 each, return. The feel of this town is similar to Cagliari; welcoming to tourists, clean, organised and very pretty. The local we met was the friendly – NOT – HoHo Bus rep. Arrogant little twerp in fact, obviously stressed about the number of people lining up to purchase bus tickets. Regardless, we got on and plugged our earphones in (note: these ones where much more comfortable than other cities!) and tuned into the English commentary. Some fascinating history and current conditions, great architecture and a stupendous view from the top of the mountain were all highlights of this trip. We got off back at the cathedral and walked up and around it. It still amazes me that edifices of this calibre were built without the modern mechanical advantages we have now.

From the cathedral we wound our way back down the hill, through a multitude of little alleys, all with their own unique stores and bars. At the bottom, we wandered along what was the river bed – and is now a pedestrian mall – to find a place to “people watch” and enjoy our customary G & T 🙂

That’s when the Angry Bird decided my leg was the perfect spot to drop a steaming hot, and large, portion of it’s alimentary canal. Bleh. Numerous serviettes (and a dollop of hand cleaner) later we resumed our G & T. Herself, of course, giggled uncontrollably at the circumstances. Bleh again. So, back to the ship, late dinner, bed. Valencia tomorrow!
