The flood of 1957 was literally the last straw for the city of Valencia. Over 75 floods during the previous 700 years caused the government of the day to plan to re-route the Turia River away from the center of the city. This created a huge, long public space in the old riverbed, the Jardi del Turia; gardens, football fields, open air theatres all sprang up after the project was completed in 1973. Fascinating what you learn from the HoHo bus commentary 🙂
The HoHo in Valencia leaves from the Placa de la Reina. The MSC shuttle dropped us off on the other side of the Jardi del Turia, so lets find a Pont (bridge) and cross into a bewildering series of Placas (places, plazas, choose your language <g>) to de la Reina. Listened what we thought was the best and most interesting (to us, at least) commentary we’ve had yet. Then back, to wander through that labyrinth of placas, laneways and twisting streets. Enjoyable, so many little unique shops, bars and restaurants.
We settled on a smaller place near to where we would catch the return shuttle. I carefully checked for any trees, or over hanging perches, I did not want a repeat of yesterday! Ah, bliss, cold, tasty beer. And, a really nice crunchy roll; bacon, camembert, and caramelised onions.
Yum! Whoops, nearly 3pm, better get that last shuttle or be stranded in Valencia.
Valencia? Lovely, place, especially the older, walled portion. Re visit? We’d probably choose Mallorca or Sardinia in preference. Off to Marseille tomorrow, then finish this cruise at Genoa.
Mr Right
Yes …I have to cope with another language tomorrow. From German to Italian to Spanish to French ….thank God for McDonalds and the pictures on certain doors!…..The bag now has a pair of shoes , a handbag, some linen and other treats for I wonder who …..what will tomorrow bring? Hopefully the rescue of Mexican children above all!

Loving the commentary. Interesting places and people no doubt. Makes our life at home seem ordinary. Hahaha!!!!!! Have fun and stay safe. Love as always. XXX
