Lullaby of Broadway

Well, here we go… Mr Right is again too tired to report the day’s activities, just quietly , we have walked a million miles the last few days. There is just so much to do in NY. Our new friends, George and Julie, have been here three times before and still need more time. Firstly, for those wondering, New York is completely safe, at no time have we felt worried or uneasy, other emotions yes, but no negative feelings. Today we woke to another bright sunny day (sorry about that Brisbanians) and we headed off early to do the open top “Down Town” tour…did the loop around (about 2 hours) and had a very good guide who really pitched the entire commentry at us , personal guide, how cool. Anyhow on the second time around we got off at Macy’s for the Columbus Day Sales , didn’t buy anything but socks! What a mad house, like our Boxing Day sales (end of season too) We then went to see Soho, and finish the shopping list, yay!!!!! All done! Then due to the Columbus Day Parade the streets were closed off and the hop on hop off  bus was rerouted, so we had to WALK for miles to catch the bus …how appropriate, the next guide explained how 20 blocks is 26 minutes walking (as if we didn’t know that!!) He also explained the way the streets and avenues are numbered and how everything is so simple ….and take it from me, it is. 5th Avenue splits the city into East and West, North / South are avenues. then you have numbers running east/west …like 34th STREET (remember the miracle?) , and, if you want to find a specific address then it is that number of blocks from 5th Avenue …for example 7o8 West 38th street is 7 blocks west of 5th Avenue on 38th (and they are consecutive)…Great eh?????Today we also saw where Hugh Heffner, Donald Trump, Beyonce, Ricky Martin and Al Pacino live ( posers, and I bet they never clean the toilet!!!!) We saw the Waldorf Astori Hotel, The United Nations,  NBC, Carnegie Hall, etc ….Now , I have to say  something about Ground Zero, Wayne just thought it as a “place” …I however had a different reponse, I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times now , and the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. The site  is basically a construction zone , BUT, there seems to be a huge delay in getting things done, I think that is sad, how can some people move on?   Also the neighbouring buildings are actually being taken down, floor by floor , as the toxins from the site have infiltrated and thus, made the buildings, toxic. Then on top of that we found out that …years after the tragedy, human remains have been located on the roofs of nearby buildings, don’t mean to be negative, but how tragic is that? Families looking for their loved ones and finding out years later that they tried to jump to safety. In the centre of the site is the place where the rescue workers raised the American flag in a similar way to the flag raising at the Iwo Jima Monument, we posted in our Washington post. Anyhow , on a brighter note, last night we went up to the Empire State Building and saw New York by night woohoo, glad we didn’t go tonight as we have just been struck by a violent electrical storm …good night to be blogging!!! Now tomorrow is the last full day of our vacation, so we are changing our “state of mind”….we are ready to come home … I miss Bundy and Chardy heaps, and we have a new little person to meet. We also can’t wait to see Georgia and see how much she has grown. We have plenty to do tomorrow …including, seeing Jersey Boys tomorrow night, 5th row, dead centre, in NEW YORK, how good is that ?????…So why the title of the post: “The lullaby of Broadway”? That is the sound of sirens all through the night. …you go to sleep to the sound of sirens and the deep honking sounds of the New York Fire Dept…… oh, and yes, it was Tiffany’s!!!!

Over to Mr Right for his input …… Love Lorraine XXXX

She Who Must Be Obeyed has written another novel 🙂 And, as before, she has covered everything we did. Our feet are really burning, but it’s been fantastic, New York is just so different from anything either of us has seen before. I’m going to add some photos now, the entire collection of photos will be posted on our website after we get home. Ooroo!

ps: I promised Lorraine diamonds from Tiffany’s, she got them 🙂
