Divine Drive, Donkeys, Dung and Disappointing

You think I missed a post? ….yes ….but that was due to the fact that we had a sea day and it was time for a break ….was a bit of an isolate actually …lounging in cabin watching a few episodes of “The Crown” ….Anyhow, the next port was in view on awakening on Tuesday, tenders from the island were preparing to take us to Santorini. Early start, on the first tender to this island of steep rock faces and beautiful Greek buildings boasting the blue and white colours that are NOT representative of the colours of their flag. It is all about the chemical makeup of the plaster and the whitewash used. Getting off the tender and there was the cable-car to take us to the top where, from afar, the white buildings look like snow on a mountain top. A VERY steep but short trip to the top and there we were met by numerous sensory treats …the colours, the views and the sight and smell of donkeys and their dung. The donkey teams were on their way to the bottom to carry tourists to the top. The donkeys just follow the cobblestone path ..I think their shoes may be rubber! Then we were meandering the narrow cobblestone alleys once again looking at the local crafts and products…..some BEAUTIFUL embroidery was yelling at me to purchase!!! After a little while we decided to jump on a local, private, small bus that took us on a divine drive to one end of the island and back. Great scenery, shopping (nuts etc) and yet more selfies, now to be known as couplies.

We then did some shopping and headed back to the ship (via the cable car down) as we had a double port on one day. Back on ship a few refreshing drinks on the deck (thank God for the drinks package) an early dinner and then docking at Mykonos for 8pm disembark. This is where the word “disappointing” applies. It was dark, and we could not see the colours and views of Mykonos. It was alight with shops, yachts, cruise ships and street life but we could not look at what seemed to be crystal clear water. But hey …I can now say we have been to Mykonos. It will be worthy of a return trip I think.

Today is another sea day before arriving in Dubrovnik tomorrow….more on the drinks package and maybe another episode or two of “The Crown”
Until the next write up.

Hi again to both, enjoy that cruise! Yes and my trivia news, have watched Crown series here too. You’ve probably been to Dubrovnik by now, hope that was great. Looking forward to your next postings.
    Love to both, Karen xx
